Although Islam is a spiritual religion but it came into being through technical means, in just normal ways. A prophet names Muhammad (PBUH) was sent to earth, he was the messenger of Allah and conveyed the messages of Almighty Allah to the Ummah (his people). It took him 23 years to preach his religion; the arrival of Islam in various parts of worlds is the outcome of his journey of 23 years. He preached his people with the help of the holy book named “Quran”. After the journey of Muhammad (PBUH) was completed and Islam was spread into every nook and corner of world, the prophet passed away, leaving behind his teachings, Sunnah and above the Holy Quran to be followed. The prophet (PBUH) may have passed away from this physically but spiritually he is alive, he dwells among the hearts of his people, he is alive in every custom, every ritual, in his every sunnah.
In his journey he went to many places, there are places were some very special and prominent events occurred, there are places which still holds the essence of the beloved prophet and his family, there are some places whose land still holds the aroma of the blood of his family, there places where something really special happened.
Today after many years, people go to those places where once Muhammad (PBUH) & his followers lived , they visit those site which were once home to those great people, people pay their tribute to landscape which once had the honor of Muhammad’s presence, they call upon the sky whose air holds the breathes of the greatest prophet. The ummah loves him so much that they go to such places to feel the presence of their mentor & guide, although he lives in the heart but his people make a trip to the places he once called home, in order to feel his habitation. Those places are marked as the holiest places in Islam, so the top ten holiest places that we have in Islam are:
10. Jerusalem:
Jerusalem is a very important place for Islam because it was the direction of prayer before it was converted to mekkah, a very important mosquemasjid Aqsa is also in Jerusalem, another important site the dome of the rock is also in Jerusalem. There is this very important event in Islam, this is the story of the night when Muhammad made a journey to heaven during his life time, it is said that from his house he first went to Jerusalem and after that he ascendant to heaven, he completed the entire journey within a matter of seconds. Jerusalem is also a holy city for Muslims.
9. Masjid Quba:
Masjid quba is the oldest mosque in the world and is a very prominent place for Muslims. This mosque is also in situated in the city of prophet, Medina. The first stone of this mosque was placed by the prophet himself. This mosque has such importance that praying a nafil in this mosque is equivalent to the performing an ummrah.

After the imam Hussein was martyred in thewar of Karbala, his shrine was built near the spot where he was killed. The shrine of Imam Hussein is in Karbala and is among the holiest place in Islam. In the month of Moharram, plenty of people visit his shrine near and at ashura, 10th of Moharram which is his death anniversary
7. Masjid-e-Al-Qiblatain:
Masjid Al Qiblatain is among the oldest and greatest mosques in Islam, this mosque is situated in the city of Madina, Saudi Arabia. This mosque holds a very vital significance because in this mosque the direction of Qibla was changed from Jerusalem to Mecca.
6. Cave Hira:
Cave hira is a cave in a mountainJabal al nur in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The prophet (PBUH) was not born as a prophet, but at the age of 40 he was made a prophet by Allah. Before becoming a prophet, he used to go and spend his time in this cave to acquire some hours of solitude, it is just a normal day when Muhammad (PBUH) was in this cave and an angel named jibrailcame to him and told him that he is a prophet of Allah. The holy Quran was sent to the prophet into bits & pieces, it was jibrail who brought the verses of Quran from heaven to Muhammad (PBUH), jibrail often came to Muhammad when he is in cave hira.
5. Land of Karbala:
Karbala is a city of Iraq, Karbala is the land where the deadliest war of Islam was seen. This is war in which the family tree of Muhammad (PBUH) ended, in this war all the relatives of Imam Ali were killed, this war was an incarnation of brutality. This war occurred in the month of Moharram, despite being away from home, without any food or water, along with women & children; they were all brutally murdered by the Umayyad Caliph, Yazid. Karbala is the place where the blood of these innocents was spilled, were the children dies because of thirst and hunger, this war is a stigma to humanity. The martyrdom was however an order from Allah, Hussein Ibne Ali, the grandson of the prophet sacrificed his life, when the war ended all the women & children were taken in as slaves and were treated in a very terrible way. This place holds a very vital importance for Muslims; this place is an example of martyrdom, bravery and sacrifice.
4. Medina:
Though Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah, he after becoming a prophet of Allah migrated to medina because the citizen of Makkah turned against him after he started preaching Islam, they made his life terrible, Allah however orders his prophet to leave Makkah at once and migrate to medina. Medina then become the central place for Islam for many decades, the prophet himself lived in this city and is buried here as well.
3. Najaf:
Najaf is another holy city for the Muslims; this city is situated in the territory of Iraq. Najaf is the place where the tomb of Ali ibne talib is built; he is the greatest man the history has ever seen. He was the cousin & son-in-law of the dear prophet (PBUH), he was the first child who converted to Islam, he was very special & dear to Muhammad (PBUH), and the prophet loved him deeply. Although no one knows about his final resting place, it is anonymous, it is hazrat Ali’s wish that his burial place must be anonymous, but najaf is believed to be his final resting place where a tomb has been built there in his honor & people from all over the world come here. The shrine of Imam Ali or the Imam Ali mosque is the third holiest place for the Muslims,
2. Masjid-e-Nabvi:
Masjid e nabvi is a mosque in the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia and is a very holy place for the Muslims, firstly because the foundation of this mosque was laid by Muhammad (PBUH) himself, he constructed his mosque which today is the second largest mosque in world, however goes to perform hajj definitely visits Masjid-e-Nabvi. Secondly this place is the final resting place of the beloved prophet, this is the place where he is buried therefore Muslims come here to pay their tribute to the man who has blessed them with such marvelous religion. Beside Muhammad (PBUH), this site is also the final resting place of two greatest peoples in Islam after the prophet, the two people who were the backbone of the prophet; Hazrat umar and Hazrat Abu Bakar siddique. Despite its spiritual importance this mosque is an extremely breathing taking place when it comes to beauty, this mosque has the most amazing architecture.
1. Kaaba (Masjid-al-Haram):
Kaaba is said to be Allah’s home which is situated in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This place has existed since the times of Adam, it was rebuilt & renovated plenty of times but Kaaba has existed since forever. Kabba is the place where Muslims from all over the world come every year in order to fulfill one of the most important rituals in Islam, Hajj, and the holy pilgrimage. Masjid-al-haram surrounds the Kaaba and is the largest mosque in the world. Performing hajj is among the pillars of Islam, therefore it is a dream & desire of every Muslim to visit Kaaba & perform hajj. For Muslim, his/her life is incomplete until or unless they have seen Kaaba & performed hajj. This is the holiest place in world in Islam.
