Mirror Illusion of Leandro Erlich

Mirror Illusion of Leandro Erlich

Argentine architect / artist Leandro Erlich and after this next article hopefully you will be too. Not only is he incredible gifted, he’s a master of illusion as well. His latest work titled ‘Dalston House’ is a testament to his skill and vision, it’s art designed to boggle, perplex and thrill. Visitors can simply lay on the floor and look up, only to suddenly find themselves dangling out of windows, hanging from the roof or sitting on a ledge. It’s all part of Erlich’s unique gift of toying with our perception and sense of reality.

They are just some of the celebrities that visual artist Marc Ghali has used in his gracefully series whereby he fuses former stars with their modern-day equivalents. Childhood Photos Of The World’s Most Brutal Dictators

They are known universally as some of the world’s most hated, feared and brutal individuals. Once untainted and innocent youths, as men they evolved into dictators, despots, egomaniacs & warmongers.

Together they have collectively destroyed, tormented and played key roles in the deaths of millions of individuals – either through their divisive philosophy, unrelenting fascism, promotion of racism, political propaganda design to oppress the masses & strengthen authority or their unquenchable thirst for power resulting in war.

5 Hottest Places In The World

5 Hottest Places In The World

With summer finally here, it’s time for beach vacations, camping trips, water parks, picnics, and other outdoor activities reserved for the warmer months.

Of course, in many places, summer also means scorching temperatures, blazing sun, and mandatory air conditioning. While a tropical getaway and relaxing day at the beach may be on the top of your summer vacation list, you may start to rethink those options when the temperatures begin to rise.

Still, complaining about temperatures rising to 80 or 90 Fahrenheit will seem pretty pathetic after checking out this list of the hottest places on Earth. Just reading about these burning destinations will get you running for a cold shower. With temperatures too extreme to bear and climatically harsh and remote locales, the top 5 hottest places in the world are not to be messed with.

Counting down from the least hot (but still unbearable) in the top 5 to the hottest, here’s our list of the hottest places in the world.

The 10 Largest Dog Breeds in the World

We have all had our heads turned at the sight of a large dog, whether just in pure awe, appreciation, or intrigue. Some of the largest dog breeds in the world are recognizable, like the Great Dane or the Saint Bernard, and others are more obscure. While it seems owning a teacup size dog that can slip easily into your handbag is all the rage with celebrities these days, many people prefer the companionship of a large dog.

All the dogs that make up this list of the world’s largest dog breeds are over 100 pounds and the ‘shortest’ dog on the list comes in at an impressive 26 inches at the withers, the highest point of dog’s shoulders. Regardless of your criteria for determining the world’s largest dog breeds, all these gentle giants are on average the tallest, heaviest, and brawniest breeds in the world.

Though not recognized by any major kennel club, they are acknowledged by rare breed organizations and are known for their intelligence and stable temperament. Bred as companions, these dogs have a high energy level and are a great family dog. Their coats come in a multitude of colors and they often work as therapy or search and rescue dogs.

Green Tramways in Europe

Green Tramways in Europe

Tram tracks on many European cities are lined with grass, a practice that probably started in the 1980’s to bring greenery back to city space and at the same time, provide habitable zone for numerous insects and invertebrates. These swaths of green provide a host of benefits to any urban area, like reduce urban heat island effect, provide a permeable surface for storm water to infiltrate, reduce pollution and absorb noise generated by the grinding of metal wheels on metal tracks. Not to mention, they look incredibly good in comparison to concrete or asphalt.

Extraordinary Photographs of Animals Inside the Womb

The experience of most detailed embryonic animal photographs ever taken. Using revolutionary four-dimensional scanning technology, scientists have shed light on the world of animals inside the womb, including that of dolphins, sharks, dogs, penguins, and elephants. The images are from a National Geographic Documentary called “Extraordinary Animals in the Womb” and were captured by using a combination of three-dimensional ultrasound scans, computer graphics and small cameras to document the animals’ development from conception to birth. The documentary serves as “testimony to the strong relatedness of all mammals.”

Giant Dragon Skull on beach in Dorset’s Jurassic coast in England

On last Monday morning, locals and holiday makers were surprised to discover what appeared to be a giant skull of a dragon on Charmouth beach in Dorset’s Jurassic coast in England. The spectacular skull the size of a bus appeared to have been washed up on the beach famous for its treasure trove of dinosaur fossils. No need to panic. It’s just a publicity stunt by U.K. streaming video service Blinkbox who knows exactly how to celebrate the arrival of season 3 of the TV series Game of Thrones on their service.

The skull, which measures 40 feet long, 8 feet wide and 9 feet tall, took a team of three sculptors over two months to design, construct and paint. The skull was then transported across London and plonked down on Jurassic coast overnight. The choice of location was brilliant. The Jurassic coastline is home to a sequence of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous rock formations spanning 185 million years of the Earth’s history. A large number of fossils has been unearthed in this region. The last major fossil to be found was that of the Ichthyosaur, a dolphin like creature which lived 220-65 million years ago.

Millionaire's house has 165 foot aquarium fence

Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu is a Turkish business man with plenty of cash and some very interesting tastes. He made the decision his fence looked to unwelcoming, boring, ugly, and ripped it out and had it replaced with a 165 foot long aquarium fence that encircles his entire yard. The aquarium is stocked with massive amounts of fish, a cleaning and filtration system, and provides a security wall that is beautiful, but probably not secure. The offset the reduction in security Mehmet installed cameras, added security features, and has the fence monitored around the clock. This is not Mehmet’s only venture into incredible aquariums. The wall is impressive, but the concept continues on into his home, which you can learn more about by visiting his Facebook page.

The Most Narrow House in the World

The Most Narrow House in the World

Narrow House is one of the many ways that Austrian artist Erwin Wurm looks at the world differently and challenges his viewers to do the same. Wurm created this installation based off of his childhood home. Visitors were invited into the living quarters to explore the narrow spaces and slender furniture that filled the house. Everything including the hallways, the bedroom, the living areas, even the toilet, were unusually compressed. Through the installation, Wurm raises questions about space, posing "some deep and disturbing questions about the terror that comes from having our personal space constricted, restricted, or invaded."

Wurm approaches art with a great sense of humor. He says, "You don't always have to be deadly serious. Sarcasm and humor can help you see things in a lighter vein." And so, many of his works involve redefining our expectations of the world around us. He creates interactive art using everyday environments, materials, and people in order to provoke his viewers to first laugh, and to then carefully contemplate what we see.

Amazing Plant Sculptures at the Montreal Mosaiculture Exhibition 2013

Amazing Plant Sculptures at the Montreal Mosaiculture Exhibition 2013

Even if you’re not into gardening yourself, the plant sculptures in the international Montreal Mosaiculture Exhibition will blow your mind. As defined in the official website of the event, mosaiculture “is a refined horticultural art that involves creating and mounting living artworks made primarily from plants with colourful foliage (generally annuals, and occasionally perennials).” It is also a highly complex form of art, requiring different sets of skills from all the participating artists: not only do they have to plan and build the framework of the sculpture and match the colors, it is also important to understand the maintenance of each plant they use.
This year over 200 horticultural artists from all around the world present 40 living plant sculptures, created from more than 22 000 different plant species – over 3 million flowers overall! The sculptures will be showcased in 10 exhibition greenhouses and 30 themed gardens at the Montréal Botanical Garden until 29 September. The competition also touches on ecology, challenging artists to work around the “Land of Hope” theme and interpret it in their sculptures from the ecological point of view.

Map Of The World According To Americans

Map Of The World According To Americans

The World According To Americans. The map is certainly a bit ignorant, but it seems to coincide perfectly with many American’s preconceived notions of places that they know little to nothing about. Either way some of these places certainly made us laugh, and it’s worth taking a closer look at.
Being an American I know all too well the terrible, yet often hilarious, stereotypes associated with our common folk geography knowledge and cultural awareness, or better yet lack thereof.

Apparently someone else found this topic to be humorous as well, creating this map dubbed The World According To Americans.  The map is certainly a bit ignorant, but it seems to coincide perfectly with many American’s preconceived notions of places that they know little to nothing about. Either way some of these places certainly made us laugh, and it’s worth taking a closer look at. You can purchase yours at Zazzle

The Poisonous Blue Lagoon of Harpur Hill — Buxton

The Poisonous Blue Lagoon of Harpur Hill — Buxton

From a distance, an abandoned quarry at Harpur Hill in the English town of Buxton looks like a true paradise. The water is a brilliant turquoise blue that looks like something from the Mediterranean. Locals call it the “Blue Lagoon”. But looks can be deceiving. In reality, the water in the pool is blue due to chemical pollution – toxic leftovers from its industrial days. There are signs close to the shoreline that warn people of the pool’s dangerous contents that include abandoned cars, dead animals and human waste, and the ‘beach’ is limestone chippings. Despite the warnings, the flooded quarry had become a bizarre holiday destination as young people and even families turn up to camp out, swim and hold all-night drinking parties there because the web pictures show an idyllic stretch of water with a ‘beach.’

The attractive coloring of the water is caused by the surrounding limestone rocks which leach calcite crystals into the water, turning it turquoise. The calcium oxide in the water turns it alkaline with a pH level of 11.3, only slightly lower than bleach (ph 12.6) and ammonia (pH 11.5) - toxic enough to cause skin and eye irritations, stomach problems and fungal infections.

In June 2013, the council poured black dye into the water to lessen its appeal, and so far the plans has worked. Tourists have stopped swimming in it. Local business owner Rachel Thomas told to BBC, “They don't think they're on holiday in the Bahamas any more, they know they're in Harpur Hill.”
